Google Pixel XL Honest Review:

Google has stopped the Nexus Series and now started with the Pixel series and Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL are the first two phones under Google Pixel Series. Google Pixel starts from Rs 57,000 (INR) and comes in three colors: Very Silver, Really Blue, Quite Black and comes with 32GB and 128GB. The Google Pixel XL starts from Rs 67,000 (INR). The Difference between Google Pixel and Google Pixel Xl is the Battery, Display Size, and Price. Rest everything is same. You can check the full Comparison in the below Comparison Table of Google Pixel and Google Pixel Xl.

Google Pixel vs Google Pixel Xl

I am using Google Pixel from the last 3 Months and here is my Take on.

Google Pixel XL Full Review in Detail:

1. Google Pixel XL Display and Design Review:

Google Pixel XL comes with 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED 2560*1440 Display. Google Pixel XL comes with 2.5D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4 and with 534ppi. The Display in Google Pixel XL is just amazing and I liked the Display very much because the Color Reproduction, Touch response is just awesome. However, I was not much satisfied with the Design Part of Google Pixel XL. The Nexus Series has a clean and amazing design but Pixel was not that much attractive in terms of Design. The Screen to Body Ratio is also not that great and is just around 69%. It should have around 80%. If I Compare Google Pixel XL to iPhone 7 Plus then iPhone 7 is the winner in terms of Design because iPhone 7 Plus has a Clean and neat Design and gives a Premium feel. Even Google Pixel Xl and iPhone 7 Plus comes in the same price Segment but still by Design Google Pixel XL doesn’t seem to be a worth investment if you need a premium and a stylish phone like OnePlus 3T and iPhone 7 Plus. The design is also not that bad 😛 it looks good in Quite Black Color. The Overall Design is Good but for the display, i would give it a rating of 9/10.

2. Google Pixel XL Camera Review (Vs iPhone 7 Plus Camera):

Google Pixel XL comes with 12MP Rear Camera and 8MP Front camera but with this much of MP you might be thinking that the camera is not good because these days we see 16MP, 21MP etc in the smartphones who are in the price range of 20-30K (INR) but you have noticed that iPhone also comes has low or less MP. Clarity and Quality is not decided by Mega Pixels it actually the Lens and resolution. And I was very much satisfied with the Google Pixel XL both Front and Rear Camera. I Must say Google Pixel XL is the best camera phone right now if we excuse VIVO and OPPO for a Moment. Even Google Pixel XL’s Front camera performs better in low light conditions if we compare to iPhone 7 Plus. Yes, it is hard to believe but Pixel’s Front camera is much better than iPhone 7 Plus Front camera. Also, Google Pixel XL has a wide angle Front Camera and you can take good Group selfies but iPhone 7 Plus doesn’t have the same. I have used iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL together many times and I found the front camera in Google Pixel XL is just amazing than iPhone 7 Plus. Well, No Doubt we can’t compare the Rear Camera of iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL because we know who will Win :P. But Still Google Pixel XL’s Rear camera is also just amazing and you can really take awesome shots in any light condition.

I think I have added more than enough camera samples it is only because I am in Love with the camera of Google Pixel XL. I have clicked the images in Day Light, Low Light, In Night, Somewhere in Artificial Light, Somewhere in Natural Light, Used Flash sometimes. So the main reason of showing you these many numbers of camera samples of Google Pixel XL is that Google Pixel XL has an amazing Camera and don’t struggle in low light conditions. It just gives u some shots. Even some shots you might think are taken from a DSLR. This is my first Review in which I have added around 50 Camera samples and usually, I upload around 10-12 Camera samples and in my recent Review of Asus Zenfone 3s Max ZC521TL I haven’t even uploaded a Single Picture because the camera of Asus Zenfone 3s Max is below average.

I hope you have liked my these pictures that I have clicked with Google Pixel XL. Just do let me know in the comments section that which picture you liked the most. 😛

3. Google Pixel XL Gaming and Performance (Hardware) Review:

Google Pixel XL is Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (2.15Ghz + 1.6Ghz), 64Bit Quad-Core Processor. The Pixel XL’s Snapdragon 821 SoC uses the same Adreno 530 GPU that is used in Snapdragon 820. In the case of MSM8996 Pro AB, the max GPU frequency is set at 624MHz, which is also the same as Snapdragon 820. This means that at least on paper, one can expect the same GPU performance from the Pixel XL as existing Snapdragon 820 devices. Of course, there are always improvements to drivers and to the SoCs themselves as the manufacturing process matures, so there’s always room for improvements in peak and sustained performance, but there won’t be any major gains like what one would see from a completely new GPU or a bump in peak clock speed on the same part.

Everyone was complaining that the devices which have 820 SoC heats up a lot and then many Mobile companies moved to 821 SoC.

Google Pixel XL comes with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and comes in two memory variants 32Gb and 128GB. 32GB Variant is priced at Rs 67,000 (INR) and 128GB Variant is Priced at Rs 76,000 (INR).

I have played almost all games on Google Pixel XL and there was no lag at all and have installed many applications also but there is no lag in performance at all. The awesome feature in Google Pixel XL is that you can use 2 apps together with the help of Split Screen. Yes, you can use this Split screen feature to use 2 apps simultaneously. Google Pixel also comes with NFC Feature.

You can watch movies, Play Games, Shoot Videos, Click Pictures back to back without any decrease in performance.

4. Google Pixel XL Software (Operating System) Review:

Google Pixel XL runs on the latest Version of Android 7.1 Nougat and also Google has mentioned that they will give two years of OS upgrades from launch and three years of security updates from launch and which was as expected since it is on Stock Android. Android 7.1 is working very smooth in Google Pixel XL. The biggest and the main feature in Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL is the Google Assistant Feature. This is just as Siri or Cortana you can say but Siri and Cortana are limited to the app only while as Google Assistant is not limited to the app. You can convert your Pixel into a fully Virtual Assistant device which is just amazing and is actually the specialty of Google Pixel XL. The UI is very fast and smooth. Pixel XL is also VOLTE Supported so you can use your Jio SIM also but the main issue in Pixel is that it is Single SIM device so you can use only 1 SIM :(. Well, we cannot say it an issue but can say a missing feature.

5. Google Pixel XL Battery Review:

Google Pixel XL comes with 3450 mAh Battery which is well optimized by Google. Pixel XL gives you easily 1-day battery backup if you are a heavy user otherwise, 2 days just depends on the usage. I am using Google Pixel XL as my Primary Device from the last 3 Months and is giving me 1 full day battery backup which includes 4G, WiFi, YouTube, Emails, Calling, Shooting Videos and Clicking Pictures, Social Media Apps, Games etc. On Rough Stats, it will give you

  • Standby time (LTE): up to 23 days
  • Talk time (3g/WCDMA): Up to 32 hours
  • Internet use time (Wi-Fi): Up to 14 hours
  • Internet use time (LTE): Up to 14 hours
  • Video playback: Up to 14 hours
  • Audio playback (via headset): Up to 130 hours
  • Fast charging: Up to 7 hours of use from only 15 minutes of charging

There is a USB Type C-Port for Charging and also it has a 3.5mm Audio Jack. So, there are no complaints in Battery backup of Pixel XL.

Cons of Google Pixel XL

Well there are no major Cons but every device has some cons and I have noticed 4 cons or the Four reasons that why you should not buy the Google Pixel XL

  1. Google Pixel is OverPriced in the same price range you can buy the iPhone 7 Plus.
  2. Heating issues: Pixel XL heats up a lot and even sometimes I have to use earphones for calling because I thought my ears may burn if I keep my phone on ears while calling. The temperature in Pixel XL reaches upto 45 Degree Celsius.

    Google Pixel XL heating issue

So it may blast like Note 7 or may harm you.

  3. No External Card Slot, if you buy 32GB Variant then you have to stick to 32GB Memory only because you cannot add external Memory Card
  4. Single SIM. Using an Android Phone in 2017 and then Single SIM with this JIO Network is something that is not acceptable most of the Guys use 2-3 SIMS and specially in India after JIO Launch almost everyone uses 2 SIMs so spending 70K on a phone and then not getting a Dual SIM Phone. So then Why not iPhone 7 Plus?

If you are confused between iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL and wants to take my suggestion then I would like to tell you it all depends on your usage and your requirements. My Requirements are both iOS and Android So I use both Simultaneously.
