Australia drop points against minnows Bangladesh

Red hot Australia forced to split points against Bangladesh following match abandonment due to bad weather conditions

The match between Australia and Bangladesh had to be called off by the officials without even a single delivery being bowled because of the prevailing hailstorms which had been continuously threatening the match for the past few days.

As a result of the tie being abandoned, both the teams were awarded with a point each to add to their tally.

WC 2015 Pool A statistics

The splitting of points in this match which was expected to be a cakewalk for the Australians meant that both the teams now have 3 points from 2 games each. This also throws open the Pool A to an extent. The teams would have to fight it out hard for the four quarterfinal berths up for grabs from this group. The big guns Sri Lanka and England are yet to get open their account as far as this group is concerned. Sri Lanka have played one match against the Kiwis and lost the match by a big margin. Meanwhile, England have struck rock-bottom after suffering back-to-back heavy defeats at the hands of both Australia and New Zealand.

WC 2015 Pool A down to the wire

Pool A was expected to be an easy passage to quarterfinals for the hosts Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka. Now there is every possibility that the pool would go down to the wire. The teams, especially England and Sri Lanka, would have to keep their fingers crosses till the very last match of the group stage to confirm their quarterfinal spots and it would not be a surprise if there happens to be an odd upset among the qualifying teams.
